After attending Booker Avenue County Primary School and Liverpool Institute High School for Boys from 1957 to 1964, Kenwright—who was born and raised in Liverpool—enrolled in the latter institution.

He performed in school productions of The Merchant of Venice as Shylock, modeling LIPA on the stage of the Mount Street building. He was also the treasurer of the school’s Christian Union.
